If you were to look for the Silver City Museum expecting to find a square institutional building with a blank facade, you would be disappointed. If, however, you find yourself at a picket fence staring up at a charming red brick Victorian house with a three-story cupola, then you will have discovered the Silver City Museum. Comments from the museum Visitor Log range from "Fantastic!!", "Excellent!", and "Very Interesting!", to "This is among the finest house museums I have visited. All is so well preserved, and paints a great picture of what the town was like in its heyday."

Whether you approach Tatum, New Mexico from east, west, north or south you immediately notice the artistic metal signs on ranches, businesses and street signs. Each of them is a product of Westcraft Metal Arts, a three-generation family-owned business. The street signs were a gift to the City of Tatum. O. J. Welch, known as Tiny, began the business as a hobby twenty-seven years ago when he retired from being a school teacher and minister. His son Jerrell joined him in 1982. “Tex” is his nickname and his motto is “When God gives you talent, use it, don’t lose it.” And he has been using his artistic talent in designing metal art since joining his father. Then in 1994 his son Ron became a part of the team. Ron’s wife Sherry operates the front, the customer service area

The country's largest public display of thundereggs - a dazzling array of color - lies hidden in a small dirt building with a cave-like entrance and a sign that has the appeal of a high school science book. But, for the curious, to crack open the rough-hewn wooden door to the Basin Range Volcanics Geolapidary Museum and Rock Shop 10 miles southeast of Deming and two miles below Rockhound State Park is to find the pearl in the oyster, the pea in the shell game or, in this case, the rainbow hidden in the plain rock.

"How heavy were the gold bars Curly Bill's gang stole anyway?" Uncle Wayne asked. "Well," I said, "from what I've read the bricks were probably three-hundred pounds each. Made it impossible for pack mules to carry them off in case of a stage robbery." "Yeh," Mike said, "it would take two bricks to make a pack balance, way too heavy for any pack animal besides a camel or elephant!" Uncle Wayne chuckled and said, "Besides that, a camel or elephant would be easy trackin' . . . each dung pile'd fill an ore car."
